Considerable page slowdown #13

Many of our users noted (and complained about) a considerable page slowdown as soon as this plugin was activated. On the other hand I think that it is extremely useful. Is there anything we could do regarding the page slowdown? We are running the DW Hogfather release.

Not sure why that is, unless it's what you are displaying inside the window. I use it myself for the index of mturner.org. Here the lag is not the overlay but the indexmenu plugin. But once indexmenu has finished processing the site, the response is quite quick.
