Firmware update from sony to prevent overheating #24

This is just anecdotal, but my system seems to be about 10 times as slow after 
installing this bios upgrade. It also seems quieter. Perhaps because it's 
working at 1/10 the level it was. This seems very, very slow.

I just did the dual boot , windows 7 / Ubuntu Maverick. Sony Vaio FPCF111D , 
Nvidia 310M. There is no slow down at all after installing the patch. Now I 
feel safer about over-heating on the Linux side as well.

Is it possible to install this while in Ubuntu? My initial thought is no, 
however it would be nice.

I believe not the fan turns on more, but CPU throttles more :)
This is how it was "solved" in early Dell Core i7 series laptops.

i upgraded the bios from windows: same performance, really more noise from the 
fan. The bios upgrade just make the fan run more and faster.
Fail, i want my old bios back :(

Subscribing in case someone discovers a way to use these updates from within 
Linux.  I am on a different model, but Sony recently released a patch for my 
computer that may help with my heating issue:
