Keyboard backlight sensor doesn't work on a Sony Vaio VPCS116FG #61

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.it doesn't work

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
it should work but when I compile and run the commands it's still off 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
 Sony Vaio VPCS116FG - Linux Ubuntu 11.10
