Screen refresh rate doesn't work properly. #62

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. installing every version of drivers creates the same problem.
2. even if the screen resolution and refresh rate set 1920x1080 @ 60, 75, 36,
100, and 120 Hz on nVidia X server settings, it doesn't seem to be set. Xrandr
and ubuntu's monitor setting only show 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, and 56 Hz
refresh rates.
3. changing xorg.conf doesn't solve the problem.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
when i try to dim the screen brightness under ubuntu, dimming doesn't work
properly. after a couple of step of dimming, some horizontal black ribbons move
upward. i don't really know if the problem related with the screen resolution.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ubuntu 10.10 with 3.0.4 kernel & nVidia GT 540 with nVidia 290.10 drivers.

Please provide any additional information below.
first installation of ubuntu (without any graphic card drivers) uses lower
resolutions (such as 640x800, 800x600) and the problem doesn't appear.
