I just updated from v1.0.8 to v1.8.0 by deleting the old version before installing the new one and now I'm getting a traceback error when starting the game as you can see by the log file attached below.

It's due to using a copy of DDLC that's still on Steam. I recommend moving ddlc off of steam; re-install ddlc from the ddlc.moe and the mod from monikaafterstory.com/releases.html then follow the directions on the MAS website and run it should automatically sync to the save file on your computer. Then you can copy and paste your "game" and "Lib" ("custom_bgm" , "piano_songs" , "chess_games" if you have something in them) folders from the steam version to the new install to transfer your submods, clothes, accessories, and other additions.

It's not because of Steam(and has never been), all submods that I use have been working fine without issue for years on Steam. The issue also doesn't occur if I downgrade to v1.0.8 of this submod meaning this issue is exclusive to v1.8.0.

I have also now tried it on the standalone version of the game, the issue still persists there confirming this is not a Steam issue. traceback.txt

Did you use the instructions I provided? From the traceback, it looks like there are multiple installs of DDLC on your device, including one on Steam. It may have been accidental. Please carefully reread and retry the installation instructions on a non-Steam install and try again. The base MAS mod mentions that running it off steam can result in broken updates or other unforeseen bugs which do not exist in the standalone non-Steam version, which can include the issue you’re encountering now.. I am trying to be as thorough as possible and the instructions provided will ensure that I am able to properly find and fix your error.

I did what you stated. Downloaded DDLC from the official site which led to itch.io then downloaded latest MAS from github. Installed them on a new location and ran the game to sync the save. Then I copied the game and lib folder over to transfer my submods/spritepacks and ran the game again to which the same issue showed up.

Yes, I'm aware of that but from my years of experience, I've never faced any issue that is caused by having the game ran via Steam. I also always do manual installation for mas/submod updates, I only use the submod updater to notify me of new submod updates.

Thank you for the breakdown. Then it seems that this new error might be in the lib folder, please re-install but do not copy over the lib folder

Same error even without installing the Submod Updater Plugin.

Cdino11 commented 9 months ago

So, I download the image file, rename it and place it in the base-game directory where the executable is?

Cdino11 commented 9 months ago

yes

RedAISkye commented 9 months ago

yes

Placing that screenshot somehow fixes the issue both in separate install and Steam install.
