Ho, thank’s Agnes for asking the missing symbols…
What do you think about this isue :
http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/issues/detail?id=370 (the number
proposition on
the first line).
And Am-i the only one with dictionnary problems with accents ? (this issue :

On the last one, there's two apostrophes in direct access : the « ' » and
the « ’ ».
It's too much. The one on the lower row could be a « - » instead, with
acces to other
dashes with long press.
The lower line will look like this :
[:)] ? , [space] . - [search]
On the apostrophe (third line) we could put all the comas : ' ’ " ‘ « »

I have 2 others issues in French, should I open issues for each of them?
- words with an hyphen in the middle should be considered as one word. For
instance,
if you hit "peu", "peut-être" should be proposed.
- words recorded with a capital (first names…) should be written with a
capital, even
without hitting the shift key at the beginning of the word.

We tried to understand the xml file but it's unclear for us how a single code
can
provide the different stats and variables of a key ?
We used to linux-style (xkb) descriptions ;o)
But I can provide you a complet description of the bepo key after discution
with the
other bépo's dev on the bépo's forum.
Some questions :
– Can the lower row be changed or it's fixed for all the keyboards ?

The lower row is fixed (for now).
Provide the description of your desired BEPO layout.

Can I suggest small improvments for the lower row (I can open a new issue if
you
want) :
— moving the « ; » from the « . » to the « , » it's way more logical
(and the « : »
will become the first choice on « . » ;
— adding [], {} and <> on the « , » with (), they are realy far on the
actual
layout ;
— adding "«" and "»" on the « ' » the are needed in french, germal, etc.
— I'll move the « … » (very convinient on short text like twitter) as
the second or
third choice on « . ».
PS : I can't find it but I reamember reading here about a « double tap »
system who
allow to select the first variant on a key. It's a realy great idear…
I've open a discussion about bépo with other dev. I think there will be realy,
realy
small improvments. When we're donne I'll post here a definitiv layout.

Speaking about the bépo juste a little thing to do :
Remove the apostrophe on the botom (alphabetic) line since the symbol is
allready on the botom line (space line) and put the « - » instead (we use it
a lot for composed words).
The botom line became :
[Shift] Y X K - Q G H F [Backspace]
On this « - » key the alternatives are :
— « — » emdash
— « – » endash
— « _ » underscore
Other no important things :
— on the « e » the « é » is not needed as an alternate since it's on
direct acces on the first line ;
— since the first line almost have no alternate symbols needed in french
(expt the « ô » but the auto-corection work great on this, we realy like to
have the numbers as the first alternative.
So, the first line alternative will become :
1 2 3 4(and « o » variant) 5 6 7(and « d » variant) 8(and « l » variant)
9(and « j » variant) 0(and « z » variant).
Don't know if it's possible… thank's a lot for putting the bépo un softkey,
Olivier.

You meen tapping two time on a symbol select se first second choice ?
If it’s that it’s a great idear… but we have a lot of double lettre in
french (mostly « ss », « rr », « tt », « ll », « nn »,
« mm »). Not shure if it’s a good idear. I must think about it. As a
first tought I’ll say yes if we can dissable it on some lettre (for exemple
the « l » since « ll » is way more frequent than « ł » who don’t
exist in french ! I don’t want a « ł » to appear each time y type a
« ll »).

You must decide where to use double tap. It must be integreated in the layout.
as examample we can define double tap on e produces é.
Of course if in french is typed a lot of tt or rr it does not make sense to map
something on this keys.

Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com

The apostrophe in the third row is not same as the apostrophe in the <SPACE>
row.
Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com
on 19 Jun 2010 at 1:17
Yes, the version on the 59 is the final, exept for double tap wich is realy
great.
Usefull double tap for us :
— double « a » give a « à » ;
— double « e » give a « è » (we have « é » directly, don’t
need to put it on the « e ») ;
— double « u » give a « ù » ;
— double « - » give a « — » (em dash) ;
— double « c » give a « ç »
We could also add : double « o » give a « ô » but in fact I’d prefer
that double tap on each letter of the first row give numbers.
bépowvdljz give 1234567890
What apend to Capital letters ? Is double tap work ?
On last row (if I well understand it’s not linked to the layout) :
— double « , » give a « ; »
— double « . » give a « : »
— double « ? » give a « ! »
— double « ' » give a « ’ »
About the apostrophe, yes, they are not the same. The « ’ » typographic
one and should be use, but the « ' » is the mostly used (sadly) and the one
the orthographic correction know. We think that on such a small keyboard,
keeping the « ' » in direct is the best choice since having the « - »
on direct acces is a need.
Is it what you need ? Thank’s a lot for helping us. I don’t understand how
to do this myself :(

after a quick test, some isues :
— two botom bar !
— when on cap, only the double tap symbol can be access, no way to do the
normal one
— double tap don't work allways. Sometime the previev show the right symbol
but don't pruint it
— the emdash is on the douale tap or "-" but not on the alternative
— no suggestions
— upper row : no ô on double tap "o" (it also should be the first
altiernativ)
— lack of suggested altirnatives on bottom bar

Ok, way beter with the latest devel package. The num version looks realy great
but the "ll" is quite frequent.
Do you plan an option to enable/disable the double tap feature ?
I think that for all the double tap symbols there should the same symbol as
the.first alternativ.
The suggestions still don't work.
I don't see the alternativ of the comment number 57 on the botom row.
Original comment by nemoliv...@gmail.com
on 19 Jun 2010 at 9:36
The double tap can not be disabled at this moment.
I do not know if the main entwickle would like to make double tap optional.
Alternativ we can just remove double tap from l.
Regarding suggestins, does not it work at all? Or it works wrong?
What do you mean of "...alternativ of the comment number 57 in the bottom row"?
Shoul I reorder the bottom row?
Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com
on 19 Jun 2010 at 9:44
If we remove double tap from « l », we must remove all the numbers !
Maybe I’ve missunderstood the comment n°56, sorry. For the moment, the
bottom row won’t change. I’ve made some suggestions about different
alternative (move and add) that looks more logical.
After a reboot, suggestions seem’s to work again.

So after some tests, the numerical is unusable : we need « ll » and
« pp » for french and « oo » for english (so we let the auto-correction
put the « ô » when needed).
So I used the non-numerical one. Here is a few corrections :
— remove « è » from « ee » and put it on « éé » (we never need
« éé », but « ee » is usefull for english ;
— the double tap on « - » is « — » (emdash) wich is good, but on
longpress the emdash is not here, only the endash « – ». Alternatives on
« - » should be : — – _ (emdash, endash, underscore.
Everything else is perfect !
(exept the « œ » problem but don’t know it it’s french-related. The
correction tool should that in french sometime « oe » is « œ »… Same
as he should propose « à » when a sigle « a » is type)

Maybe I wasn’t clear on the post above.
The only double tap we need are :
— double « a » give a « à » ;
— double « é » give a « è » ;
— double « u » give a « ù » ;
— double « - » give a « — » (em dash) ;
— double « q » give a « ç » (tricky but we need the double « c ») ;
— double « k » give a « … » (realy cool symbol !) ;
And the bottom line :
— double « , » give a « ; » ;
— double « . » give a « : » ;
— double « ? » give a « ! » ;
— double « ' » give a « " » (usefull since the «/» are not there).
Symbols still need to be present on the long-press, since not everybody use the
double tap (silly…)
Thank’s a lot,
Olivier.

I've just found this layout and am liking it better than the default.
But is there a newer version with the latest suggested fixes ?
The 20100619 (without numbers on double-tap) there is no alternatives pop-up on
long press for the bottom row and the - key.
Not a show-stopper for everyday typing but that's the only one issue I see in
this layout.

Ok everything looks allmost perfect. Small bugs :
— long press on « , » : no X to close the pop-up (maybe too much
symbols, )
— long press on « ' » : the « ; » don't need to be here, and the
order would be better with : " « » „ “ ”
— long press on « - » : there's a hole on 3rd potision
— long press on « s » : first symbol is a square (font problem ?)
As you see, only small things.
