Issue with DDNS from Synology #3

Hello

found your tut, followed it to the dot and configured it like you said and it worked for a long time. Now every now and then Synology seems to have new ip-adresses for its ddns.synology.com which causes the issue that my Synology is not reacheable from outside anymore by DDNS-Url even if I turn off VPN completely... I have then to static route the new ip adresses and have to wait for all the DNS-Servers to pick it up again... Is this a common issue and what could i do about it since it gets pretty annoying?

I know that you are not Synology but maybe you know about the issue too since you cofigured it as well and have a tip for me...

Thanks again for the great Tutorial!

Hi!

Unfortunately, I don't know if this is a common problem. For some time I have static, external IP so this kind of issues disappeared.

From what you write there is no easy way to workaround the issue if Synology changes ip addresses of its services. I tried to automate the process which I described just for such cases, but failed miserably. I'm not sure if something has changed since then, but the Synology API did not allow to change networking setup.

I'll give it a thought, maybe I will come up with something.

Hello

Many thanks for taking the time to answer and to think about it! If there are new insights I'll let you know... I don't know why Synology changes it's IP and I can't find nothing in the www about it or people with same configuration as me which have the same problem...

Thanks for thinking about it!

Hello

sorry to bother you again, but I again searched for 2 days in the web because Synology did change it's IP-adresses for "ddns.synology.com" and "checkip.digitalocean.synology.com" again which caused my NAS to be non reacheable from the internet again with VPN on. Do you have experienced the same issue or am I missing something? It works for a few weeks, then IP's change again and I have to copy/paste them into static route on Synology NAS to get it to work for another few weeks...

Would be great if you have some new insights maybe?

Thanks!

PS: How did you resolve this issue with a static IP? Maybe I could get a static IP from my ISP But I have to be sure that it is worth the higher price per month... Would the problem not still persist because I still somehow would need DDNS? My server is reachable via a DDNS Adress from Synology how would I get this to work with a static IP because the problem seem to be the DNS propagation which will fail when Synlogy changes it's IP's...

Again, thanks and sorry for asking that much...

PPS: Found the Alternate Solution BUT don't know where to put it in my .ovpn-file: https://github.com/twardakm/synology-ddns-vpn/issues/2
