I think it's worth trying it. Personally I have never used libsass so I can't comment in that. But not depending on Sass makes sense.

For grunt-sass see #479. But it's not ready to use yet since it's not compatible with Sass 3.3, so it's on hold.

For the S3 caching scheme, I guess it can't hurt.
