Cannot link in iOS: Can we disable opencv-rust from generating bindings to `opencv-contrib`? And how to compile and link to iOS? #270

Hi thanks for the lib! I cannot link in iOS. The error is attached below. Looking at it, I find that it is most probably because that the default opencv2.framework downloaded from opencv.org does not contain any opencv_contrib modules. Thus, can we disable opencv-rust from generating bindings to opencv-contrib? This seems to be the easiest way to compile and link successfully in ios.

Well, it shouldn't try to generate modules that don't exist unless you have headers for them, but not libraries for some reason. You can try using the OPENCV_MODULE_BLACKLIST environment variable to disable modules that you don't want to be built. But I would like to take a look on your output of the cargo build -vv after cargo clean so that I can get the insight into what's happening.

As far as I can see you're specifying a *.framework file to link manually:

but the header files are being picked up from a different location:

So this mismatch is probably what's causing the linking errors.

To fix this you should link to the libraries from the same OpenCV installation as the parsed headers. In your case I suppose you want to use the installation from /Users/tom/Others/OpenCVRelease/. So you'd need to specify OPENCV_INCLUDE_PATHS environment variable to point to the headers under /Users/tom/Others/OpenCVRelease/. That directory needs to contain opencv2/core/version.hpp inside

Yes, you shouldn't need to do this at all, the build script will pick up framework style header path (Headers/core/version.hpp) just fine.

That's extremely weird, I suggest you try doing cargo clean prior to the build:

Regarding the questions, I'm not sure I can really help here, my expertise with macOS is extremely limited. The initial error:

indicates that the OpenCV installation is build without OpenCL support (or somehow OpenCL support is missing). So you can try reverting to the environment variables that you used before when you were getting this error and try adding only OpenCL.framework to the OPENCV_LINK_LIBS: "opencv2.framework,OpenCL.framework".

It seems that, it is the generated binding who is using that undefined symbol. So we just blacklist it and everything is done?

But I do not see a way to exclude one single method. Since it is in core.o I think it is in the core module which I definitely should not throw away.

There isn't a way to do this besides editing the code of the build script. But you can try removing those function definitions from the <header dir>/core/ocl.hpp file. It's a very hacky way, but just for testing it should work.

Indeed, I do not know... It seems so strange - why only these two functions are missing, while others are ok. So maybe we can add this pitfall to README pointing to this issue.
