Algorithm Keeps Recommending Sport #1875

Describe the bug The algorithm, despite all attempts to try and pursuade it to do otherwise, keeps recommending sport-related topics and posts. To be quite clear, I do not give a flying **** about sport. To this end, I have:

  1. Attempted to use the "All Topics" page by selecting "Sports" under "Categories" and selecting "Not interested in this topic". This appears to have no effect whatsoever. Also, the setting resets itself and has to be frequently set again in order to maintain it. Note that this page also prevents the user from blocking the specific topics that are recommended (the only option is to click the "+" to subscribe; there should be an "X" to say "not interested").
  2. On the rare occasion that Twitter provides a selectable list of specific topics, I have disabled all those that are presented. This has resulted in a list of topics (usually incomplete) being presented on the "Not Interested" tab in topics. I currently have no way of adding to this list, plus the list is ignored (for example, "Boxing" is listed and I am still getting the occasional recommendation for boxing-related content.
  3. Where an option is available to do so, I have selected the "Not interested in this" option which appears when the elipsis button is selected. This appears to have no effect. If I reload, the offending recommendation is invariably replaced with another sport-related recommendation which includes re-worded or alternatives to the recommendation that has just been rejected. For example, if I do this for a particular sport player who's full name is specified, it will recommend an alternative based on their first name, last name, or a hashtag.
  4. The "This trend is harmful or spammy" option on the same elipsis menu has the same non-effect as in 3.
  5. Blocking all accounts containing sport content does not appear to have an effect either. I have blocked many accounts relating to sports teams, broadcasters and reporters yet the recommendations keep coming.
  6. The "Interests" page in settings is updated on a daily basis with items that I have no interest in whatsoever. This includes subjects that I can see absolutely no justification for recommending including the sport-related topics. These are de-selected when they are found but have little or no effect on the recommendations presented.
  7. I have added sport-related keywords/phrases to the "Muted Words" page. This has had no effect on the recommendations.
  8. On the "Home" page, where sport-related posts have been presented, I have selected the option to say "Not interested in Sports", but it keeps on with the recommendations.
  9. There are periods where the functionality of the "Explore" page is restricted (the tabs at the top of the page disappear and most of the paged is filled with sport results). I have found no way to block this and have to resort to using the "Trends" page while this is going on.
  10. Twitter support have been no help with this issue as I have yet to receive any response from them.

In the majority of cases, the posts/topics/trends recommended are explicitly marked as either sport or the specific sport that they relate to.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to '...'
  2. Click on '....'
  3. Scroll down to '....'
  4. See error

Expected behavior If I say I don't care about sport and I tell your system that I don't care about sport, then I should not have to see constant recommendations for sport-related topics and discussions.

I have the same problem. It happens for topics and people. When I say "not interested in this tweet" I still see the person's tweet in my for you page.

Do they still call it tweets?
