Visit this page, for example:

Notice no highlighting occurs.

This is mixed XML/script, basically.

It also doesn't work for standalone MXML:
http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-samples-flash/source/browse/trunk/samplecode/Hell
oWorld.mxml

It does work for standalone AS3:
http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-samples-flash/source/browse/trunk/samplecode/com/
google/maps/examples/ControlOptions.as
