Accessories don't appear in Home #2

Hi:

I've configured Homebridge in a RaspberryPi4 and I'm testing the Homebridge-coviva-hager pluging. All the accessories were successfully added to the Homebridge GUI and can control them properly, but they don't appear in Home app in my iPhone.

Am I missing something? Could you help please?

Thanks in advanced, BR

Abel

Sorry, forgot to add the logs, I hope they are useful, but I don't see any error message, only one "ignoring device":

Hi,

I’m glad someone else is using the plugin — or trying to. I hope we can get it working for you.

I can at least assure you that it’s working for me, and at least one other person — the person who asked me to add support for the Coviva blinds devices.

Do you have any other Homebridge plugins running, and if so, does that Homebridge plugin’s set of devices show up in “Home” on your phone?

It’s possible that this is a general Homebridge issue rather than a specific issue with the Coviva plugin. If so, you might get more help asking on a general discussion forum than you can get from me.

I’m trying to think of what might cause this. You made it as far as emailing me, with a log, so I don’t like to assume user error. But in case it’s a simple problem:

Those are the only two explanations I can think of. The plugin is working in my house, at least, and it was reviewed and “verified” by the Homebridge developers. The logs you sent didn’t contain any errors. They looked normal and didn’t provide any clues to me. So I’m not seeing anything to suggest that the Homebridge plugin is having difficulty talking to HomeKit.

There’s a whole process to adding the Homebridge to your phone, and that will be documented better elsewhere. From memory:

Alternatively, instead of Scanning the QR code, you can choose “I don’t have a code or cannot scan”, then hope that the bridge shows up when your phone scans the network, then enter the 9-digit code from the Homebridge config or log.

So, what if it’s not as simple as that?

If nothing works, I’d be reaching out for general help e.g. on reddit /r/Homebridge, because it might be a common problem, where experienced users or other devs have more ideas to try.

Kind regards,

Tyler.

Hi:

First of all, thank you for the quick answer, I discovered recently Homebridge for RPI and your plugin was one of the first things I wanted to try, I have a coviva-haeger installation and wanted to use it with iOS. Homebridge is wonderful where I live (Spain) because there are few home accessories, this is a game changer.

I added/removed the homebred to my Home app multiple times, but it didn't work.

I thought about what you said, I didn't tried yet with other plugins, so I added one to control my RPI, and the same happens. It works perfectly from Homebridge app, but I don't see it in my Home app.

I don't know if it is related, diving in the logs I see that a JSON object is unknown, but it doesn't show which one. I thin it could be "homee_name" or "homee_image", with an extra "e" in "home".

As you said, looks like an issue in my environment instad of your plugin, the RPI plugin doesn't work neither, I'll ask to Homebridge team to see if they can help.

Again, thank you very much for the support :)

No worries

One thing that used to trip me up when I was a new users was, I would have a typo or error in the config .json file. I pasted the contents into a “json validation” website and it would tell me where I had messed up the formatting.

You’re welcome to send me the config + the JSON error message, I’d see if I can spot what’s wrong with it. But otherwise you might be able to get help from other people on forums etc.

Hi again, just let you know that I solved it, I just reinstalled Homebridge and now works perfectly.

Thanks again!

tylerrmit commented 3 years ago

Awesome, that’s great news

FYI, I’ve found my setup to be very stable. On two occasions over the past year, I have found that the actual Coviva hub had a problem phoning home to Hager Coviva. If it ever stops responding, check if the official Coviva App on your phone works. If even the official app doesn’t work, turn your Coviva hub off and on, and when it comes back up (light on solid) restart Homebridge. It’s very rare but I thought I should mention it. If the Coviva hub stops working there’s nothing I can do from the plugin to fix it.

I actually put my Coviva hub on a non-Coviva WiFi switch, so I can power-cycle it if I’m away on holiday
