Thanks for your report and your suggestion. I will take a good look at the tray in a future version.
I also noticed the problem on my Debian X/openbox system with tint2 panels. It's almost impossible to exit the app by using the right mouse button on the tray icon.
Same issue on LMDE5 (Mint-Debian) w/ Cinnamon DE.

Issue
Because of the ugly 16:9 format (as programmer lots of lost space left/right on Laptop) I run the panel on the left side. I right click on the tray icon makes a kind of menu, where I only see some white right border of a frame. the primary part of the menu is out of the visual screen.
possible solution
If you plan only an exit in this menu, a menu is not really nessesary. I had similar issues and remove tray menu in my app. I use the double click event for an app-exit.
I thought until now a tray menu was unproblematic. does it comes since gtk3? however since I read the cat:tray issues here, I am a bit wondered that this is not so. BUT: it is really I low prio issue.
