make a map with 2 layers that have variable controls (date/year whatever) with the same underlying structure in terms of variable
activate one layer and switch it to a non-default value
open the other layer -- does it show the wrong layer, inheriting the value from the other layer?
Roughly it seems like something goofy is going on with state with these when there's 2+ of them on a map. Check this in production to see if this is a new bug or some other edge case.
