We need to drill down on the formatting of this new component to make it match really closely the existing one. Part of why these look "off" is because when selected, the border color turns white which makes it look like it's getting small. Setting --mdc-checkbox-selected-focus-icon-color in the right context fixes this, etc, but overall need to refine the look/feel here.
