Purge auto-testing stuff #205

This PR removes all of the *.spec files found in the repository as they are unused code.

Also should:

[x] remove (if not used) the tsconfig.spec.json (is the tsconfig file up to date itself?:)
[x] remove e2e stuff
[x] review the package.json file and remove all stray references to packages or scripts used for testing
[x] update README

Closes #189
