If you click on the address line to simply copy the URL, then this trick does not work on a search engine, in particular Google. A search query input field opens. What is the exception ?

no, it is intentional, I prefer users to use the browser ui rather than the site ui for searches. the user's keystrokes may tell the site about his or her habits, such as the time between one character and another. however, it is indeed not possible to copy the eventual link.
