Describe the solution you would like

First, many thanks for picking-up the dead bromite and maintaining cromite!!

One thing that has always bothered me with bromite is the default search engine - google.. It's not a big deal but since this project if focused on privacy i believe replacing google with another search engine would be welcome. I wouldn't suggest duckduckgo because it's essentialy a bing-shill. Perhaps one of the searxng instances would be a good choice, or brave-search? https://searx.fmac.xyz/ (CH) https://searx.prvcy.eu/ (FI) https://search.brave.com/ If anyone has other ideas for a default search engine i would be curious to see which ones!

Thank you again uazo for cromite, project is starred!

I honestly don't see the point, just don't use it. Removing or inserting new search engines means taking a position, and for now I am staying away from choices that are not technical.

Honestly thought that someone who's serious about privacy would be anti-google because google is anti-privacy. Google is evil, they are actively deleting certain videos on their videoplatform youtube, for example anything that goes against the chinese communist party (CCP) has a high chance of being taken down or age restricted which is just a nice word for censorship. They also don't like you talking about 9/11 or julian assagne.

Not to mention google search... the top of the results promote advertising instead of anything useful aswell as malware/viruses for anyone who pays enough to google, and ofcourse google only shows you results they want you to see. Google search is a disgusting brainwashing tool, shouldn't been the default search engine for any privacy oriented software.

Changing default search engine alone does not make a browser immediately more secure. It also does not make it less secure. It is a "red herring" or "bikeshedding" at best.

Like @uazo already stated: you don't like it — you don't use it. Point.

in this browser I do not change what is the responsibility of the user who is able to make choices. in this browser I modify what the user cannot choose, trying to leave the choice anyway.

I could think about not putting any engine by default and leaving this choice to the user as well. it is not easy but it is possible.

Best approach 👍 fair neutral impartial.

I never said anything like chaning the default search engine will make the browser more secure, that sounds like nonsense.

I've already explained everything above, in case you didn't get it - changing the default search engine to a more privacy oriented one and removing google is more of a symbolic act.

Yes we can do that individual, that's not a problem. Personaly i don't see many cromite users using google search anyways so might aswell replace it, perhaps the developer could cast a vote on this, like i said it's not of high importance it's a minor thing. I hate google.
