add option to specify where the points on the color ramp are #31

Default behaviour is still to spread out the ramp evenly over the number of entries. This allows you to specify where the points on the colour ramp our so you can "stretch" the ramp to better suit your data.

Also fix issues with non-256 length color tables (stupid error copying from TuiView which always has 256 color tables internally).

re: specifying points. I think I had assumed that this was more like what the default behaviour did. I don't actually use this module much, but if I did, I think that is what I would want anyway. When I have specified colour ramps in other contexts, I have always interpolated between given explicit points.

I feel like there should be a more elegant way to control this than the way this is suggested. However, the simplicity of specifying just the number of entries would be changed, so not sure. I guess the onus is on me to come up with the aforementioned "more elegant" approach....
