It appears https://github.com/benbjohnson/clock has been archived and is no longer maintained

Indeed, and there are not drop-in replacements.

We had an attempt to pull in a custom clock in #93, but I don't understand that code and don't have cycles to understand it.

Since there are no planned changes in the library, the current clock decision seems good enough.
