Why?

I want to find out if people have done it as a bonus point for working in a distributed environment

I was thinking of people working on the same problem across the world. FirefoxAppDays was to create different apps in different locations. The topic of the hackathon was common. I have updated the title of the issue to reflect this.

Can't see any description of it, themes, etc ... did you find anything about how it went and the themes?

An distributed Hackathon: http://blog.ducksboard.com/distributed-hackathon/ And another one: https://www.hackerleague.org/hackathons/virtual-hackathon-reforming-education And the Pebble approach: http://pando.com/2014/03/10/pebble-hosts-an-online-hackathon-to-find-the-smartwatchs-future/

From what I've seen these distributed hackathons are mostly something like:

I think the simultaneous distributed hackathons are only possible if you do it in the same timezone.
