The techcrunch disrupt hackathon was really popular last year.

From the big hackathons that I've added into uberVU to track Startup Weekend seems to be the biggest, because there are events happening all the time around the world: image

Also HackJack - a Jackarta government sponsored hackathon is getting a lot of attention: http://techpresident.com/news/wegov/24972/hackjak-jakartas-first-gov-sponsored-open-data-hackathon-tackles-budget-and-public

I've also noticed 2 trends, by looking at mentions and data:

  1. There is a lot of buzz around women - centered hackathons
  2. Hackathons with a social twist get a attention and are a trend
