Here are my two proposals for Ubuntu Touch to make QR fun again:
some kind of 'combo button move' on the phones hardware which means "i'm taking a picture of a QR code'. Like how you hold the volume and power to get bootloader or press both volume buttons to get a screenshot... So, when you do this button combo the phone starts up right away in QR code mode ready to focus, take the scan, and take you to the link
In camera mode, when you focus (touch the screen) as we do for a regular photo now, the camera identifies that a QR code is in in the picture (or perhaps you can choose it from the options where the flash on/off stuff is if that's too hard) and automatically focuses on it and takes you to the website after taking a picture.
