Outgoing calls are the same :(
On which channel you are at the moment? I played a bit with my N5 in devel, and it was more or less OK, at least I did not notice anything...
I'm on 15.04/rc. The volume is not so low as to make it unusable, but if you are in a noisy place, for instance in a street with traffic, it can become hard to hear your call.
As @wagafo said if you are in the market or in a really crowded place it is hard to hear what the other person is talking ... by the way the mike volume seems to be ok ... I got from time to time a reaction that: "I can hear you 5 by 5" (I know I suck on english and need to say in a way that the person can hear me loud and clear).
Hi, I'm having this issue too. I can barely hear person speaking, but they can hear me OK. I looked in logs of application-legacy-dialer-app
, but there is nothing interesting regarding call volume. Only interesting line in a log is probably library "/vendor/lib/egl/libGLESv2S3D_adreno.so" not found
but otherwise my phone works ok. I'm on "stable" channel.
Did anybody solved this or looked into it more deeply ? Maybe it's stupid question, but can I run something like alsamixer to play with volume ? Because I can change volume only by hw buttons or GUI.
Same issue here, incoming and outgoing calls too low with max volume.
This is not an issue on Nexus 5 running Xenial r416 (and the previous releases during the last few days). I have been using the device actively at work making many calls and never had the issue.
abkro Have you tried using the phone with a mildly large surrounding noise? For instance in a car going fast on a highway, or walking in the street with busy traffic? I can barely hear anything in these situations with my Nexus 5. Otherwise it is OK.
@wagafo Yes, I have. I agree, at least partially.
When I find the volume too low, I simply press the volume up button while I speak, and the volume increases. I agree with you in the sense that I could wish for a louder maximum volume in situations like those you describe. So, at the moment, it is not more than mildly annoying from time to time.
But, then, I usually don't use the phone much in situations like that. Never have. I find it annoying with any phone. :)
abkro I also have a One Plus One with UBports and with that one there in no problem to hear the other party in those situations, with the Nexus 5 I swear you can't hold a decent conversation sometimes.
OK. But you mentioned you were on stable. I'm running devel. Maybe there's a difference?
I'm observing this in both, and devel and stable in 15.04 right now may not differ at all.
Hi, I just got a new Nexus 5, because my previous hit the ground. Clean install of current stable and so far max volume of incoming calls is enough. Meaning I can hear the voice while cars are passing by the street, which is almost impossible on older phone. I'm not sure what caused the change, so I will list only differences and will try to investigate it later. Older phone with cracked screen is now for playing.
Hi, so I was able to test it. I flashed android back to the old phone (D821) and max. volume is still too low. I'm not sure, if testing older android version would make any difference. The other phone was on latest android too before installing UT and volume is perfect. @wagafo, @juanx0 what are your Nexus5 versions ? D820 (US only) or D821 (rest of the world) ? So far its only difference between my phones and I don't have other D821 to test it more. So I guess it could be also only faulty device and not the bug in UbuntuTouch.
I don't know how to check. I have two Nexus 5 and I bought both through ebay, so that come be coming from wherever.
Hi @wagafo, its on the back side of the case (just below LG logo). Its really small text like this:
FFC ID. ZNFD820 IC 2703C D820
MODEL LG-D820 MADE IN KOREA
but "820" is repeated many times. D821 version should be the same, just with different number.
Is there any hack to manually increase maximum volume during call on Nexus5? Edit: It seems that a workaround is to activate loud-speaker mode, and then decrease the volume until you are comfortable.
The volume of incoming calls seems to be abnormally low in the Nexus 5.
