I can imagine that maybe the HDMI out via Slimport etc will not carry audio signals, or is this specified to be possible?
I am using Miracast not MHL/Slimport so my phone is connected wirelessly and its working with sound on my OnePlus 3T. As for MHL/Slimport it is possible to transfer audio.
I would think this is related to #344 . Perhaps they could have a common solution. This issue has been an issue way back the Canonical days.
SlimPort/MHL do not work for audio under Ubuntu currently, because the pulseaudio-android module does not have support for it. Until that support is implemented, it will never work.
Likewise, I don't think aethercast provides a pulseaudio module to handle audio routing, and so that would be required to stream the audio via Miracast as well.
I lurked around in the aethercast code recently. And as @dobey assumed its not implemented yet. There are some todo comments... ;)
