After logging into unity8, machine needs to reboot to log back into gnome #30

Setup: Bionic on HP 2-in-1, side-by-side with normal ubuntu-flavoured gnome

Action: login to unity 8. log out, attempt to log into "ubuntu" (gnome).

Expected result: gnome session

Real result: screen reloads and logging in happens. After reboot of machine, i can login to gnome as normal.

Could this be the same issue discussed here? https://github.com/ubports/unity8-desktop-install-tools/issues/36#issuecomment-407373930

@AlanGriffiths and @gerboland,

As of now (provided I'm using LightDM), I can log into Unity8, then log out of Unity8, and then immediately log into GNOME (either Wayland or Xorg) without problems. (But I still can't log into Unity8 using GDM, as you reported).

Strangely, also using LightDM, after I log out of Unity8, I cannot log into Unity7, or at least not without a reboot (or logging into GNOME first, as an intermediate). See issue #50 reported in the Unity8 issue tracker.

I get the sense that the bug reported here may not be relevant to recent Unity8/Mir combos. Also, this bug would be better reported in the Unity8 issue tracker, not here. (Not casting any stones; I mistakenly reported a few issues here too, in the past.)

Given the above, can this issue be closed in this tracker? Or if still reverent, can it be refiled in the Unity8 issue tracker?

It may be related to the other bug, since i managed to login with GDM initially (before the mir 0.32.1 if i'm not mistaken) which now no longer works.

I have no objections to moving the issue if you guys think it belongs elsewhere.

@rogieroudshoorn,

So, just to be clear, does this bug (can't log into GNOME after first logging into Unity8) currently affect you when using LightDM with Mir 0.32.1?

I ask because this bug does not currently affect me when using Mir 0.32.1. So if this bug currently affects you (while it doesn't currently affect me), it may be helpful if you could note here more info regarding your hardware.

I can log in and out using lightdm without issues; the bug was about using gdm3.

Right now, presumably after the mir 0.32.1 (or some other update), i cannot log in using gdm3 at all.
