abstract_note: Depuis le début des années 1970, l’accompagnement spirituel en contexte de soins de santé québécois vit de profondes transformations. Celles-ci visent à adapter ce service à la sécularisation progressive de la clientèle desservie et des institutions sanitaires elles-mêmes. C’est pour comprendre ces transformations que nous avons réalisé une recherche qualitative inductive de 2011 à 2016 auprès de 23 intervenant-e-s en soins spirituels (ISS) aux profils variés ; ceux-ci ont réalisé des récits de pratiques qu’ils considéraient spécifiquement spirituelles. Dans cet article, nous désirons montrer que les ISS du Québec développent actuellement une pratique particulière qui vise à les distinguer des autres intervenants. Au terme d’une analyse de contenu validée par un grand nombre d’ISS, il apparaît que la spécificité des pratiques d’interventions spirituelles est ainsi caractérisée par l’accompagnement du développement du pouvoir d’agir (empowerment) chez la personne. Nous présentons les différentes caractéristiques de cet accompagnement et proposons quelques pistes de réflexion sur l’avenir de ces intervenants.,
