wp2.8 to blogger conversion works, but import fails, #33

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. export small blog from Wordpress 2.8.
2. convert resulting xml file using http://wordpress2blogger.appspot.com/
3. import resulting xml file into a new Blogger blog

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I get various error msgs, hangs, timeouts, "There were problems...", etc.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I did this yesterday afternoon (Jun 25)

Please provide any additional information below.
attached or the files from Wordpress and the online app

thanks

Actually, a WP v2.7 blog export had similar troubles.

There appears to be a problem with some of the imports into Blogger from
WordPress.
The Blogger team is aware of the problem and will have a fix shortly. In the
weeks
rather than months time frame.

In the meantime, please send along and bX codes that you may experience when
attempting to do an import into Blogger.

I've also included a fixed converted blog for dmccasland. Please let me know
if this
attached file works when importing into Blogger.

Thanks.

Hey, the import of the work-around version worked! thanks!

It failed the first time with:

Sorry, the import failed due to a server error. The error code is bX-p4trhs

I tried again after 10 seconds and all the posts got imported.

I deleted all and tried again and got error bX-fly3hx. But in fact, the posts
had
been imported. So it's oddly intermittent.

One problem I noticed (with Blogger): when first imported, Blogger adds a <br >
after
every <p> !! Lots of unwanted white space for me, since my paras have their
own <p>
styles. I discovered that if you Edit the post, you see all these <br>'s in
the HTML
edit box. Then click on Compose (wysiwig). Click back to HTML and the HTML is
not
only beautified, but the <br>'s are gone -- for good! Publish it and all is
well.
So after an import of such a blog, one would need to do the above tedium for
each
blog. But not bad, a lot better than no importing.

I have another blog I'd like to import into Blogger, so I'm looking forward to
the
upcoming fix. thanks

I meant tedium for each blog *post*. And yes I have the newline-to-<br> setting
turned off in Blogger settings.

thanks

Hey I tried an import (of my other blog) with the output of the current
converter
(July 1 at 1300 Pacific) and it worked. One thing I did different: I didn't
check
the Publish checkbox at import time.
