FID column unnecessary in Add alt codes tool #82

The FID column input for the Add unique field values as Alt Codes tool is unnecessary. If you have the PISCES FID already in your dataset there would be no need to add alt codes when importing data since you would just use the PISCES species code FIDs. The tool help says that the functionality is untested. I think that it should just be removed.

Hey Andy,

At first glance, I'd agree, but the tool was developed in part for datasets that have others like them, so we might want to import many similar ones. The FID column option let the individual use ArcGIS's editing tools to set the FID, then load the matches to the database (whereas otherwise, it loads it with the FID field blank in Alt_Codes).

With that in mind, do you still think it's unnecessary?

I assumed that the user would cross walk the alt codes to the pisces species FIDs in the database. Keeping the option for using Arc's editing tools to add the PISCES FID makes sense since then they would not have to dig into the alt_codes.
