Branched off #1501, so that should be merged first

Replaces the base modal dialog with a functional equivalent
Implements an alert dialog when the invalid login state is received in My Widgets
Tweaks to modal styling

The diff on this one got wacky because it was branched from #1501 and there's been some divergent history. Re-opening a new PR for a branch with the required commits cherry-picked.
