Variables: Be able to share variables across modules #1537

Based on an instructor request, but there's a need for a string of modules (example: Three modules on thermodynamics) to share the same generated variable. Currently variables are being designed to be local to a node inside a document.

If we end up having some sort of container for modules I could see us being able to define variables there. Perhaps there's also a way to reference a variable from another module?
