7 months ago Notes for front-end templates options/frameworks:
- Django Pixel Template using Bootstrap3: downloaded/locally ran the source code for this website here https://github.com/app-generator/django-pixel (it's under MIT License) - it looks REALLY sleek and uses an existing Django template called pixel. It seems more complex than what we really need, but we could pare it down. Upside is that it is already templated out to use Django, but does not juse Jinja2 for pulling in a lot of data more easily. Uses Bootstrap for most of the design of the site (potentially has all the functionality we might need so would not be reinventing the wheel).
- Flask/Jinja2 template using Bootstrap4: also downloaded/locally ran the source code for this website here https://github.com/app-generator/jinja-quick-ui-kit (also under MIT License) This looks like I could repurpose some of the jinja2 code into the above template as needed. Downside: built with Flask, not Django so would need to pivot to that approach as needed. Like the above, uses bootstrap for the design elements.
- core Django setup, customized htmx for formatting: MUCH more simple approach. Not even a whole website/page template built but a module approach to only building what we need. Could integrate with this core django setup here: https://github.com/app-generator/core-django (also deployed locally under MIT license)
This is a start, but I'm curious to see what Turk shares tomorrow about architecture to give us a clue on what direction we could go in/what might be too complex for our needs!
look at jinja template options to see what types of front end looks are possible, explicitly finding 1-3 examples to show the rest of the group.
