Greg was able to get it running but with some issues:
- City’s bootstrap is not well supported.
- It uses Jekyll written in Ruby and doesn’t work with newer versions of Ruby.
- Greg was able to use a workaround to open on a local port and compile with Ruby and Jekyll.
- Workaround involves using Python to open the server, but Jekyll can’t auto-reload.
- also a weird interaction (at least on Greg's machine) with Ubuntu and OpenSSl versions
Team Discusses options:
- Docker: Use a Docker image with an older Ruby version to ensure compatibility. Greg is exploring the feasibility of this over the next week.
- Custom CSS: Create custom CSS using the city’s hex codes and design guides, possibly pulling some of the CSS elements manually in a way that doesn’t rely on Jekyll itself.
- Custom CSS on top of another Bootstrap theme: Consider using custom CSS on top of another Bootstrap theme - we’re not sure if this will be helpful or overly burdensome/redundant.
Considerations:
- Accessibility/Colorblind Friendly: Ensure the design is accessible (Using the City’s design guide helps with that).
- Ease of Maintenance: Consider how easy it will be to maintain (City’s design poses some challenges here).
- Clear, Uniform Design Standards: Given the volunteer nature of the project, we want to have a clearly defined set of assets so that we can have consistency across the site even if multiple people are building.

- greg got the website to load on computer without using Docker
- also set up docker container for easier use going forward
