Thank you very much for your presentation Prof. Pope! I am wondering about the term "inattention parameter" defined throughout the paper. Does it have real-life meanings? Or it is just a numerical expression of economic terms such as utility. Thanks!

Thanks for your presentation. Can I kindly ask how it would apply to other fields? Thanks.

Thank you so much for your presentation. I am wondering whether geographic differences could alter the results and change the model.

nwrim commented 3 years ago

Thanks so much for coming to our talk! As your paper is more on the "heuristic" part of the human mind, I was wondering if we can do some kind of rational analysis to actually see if the heuristic is rational or not. Do you have any opinions on this matter?

Thank you for attending our workshop Prof. Pope! As vehicle warranties and maintenance intervals are typically based on the 10,000 mark, but cut off at some manufacturer specified mileage, I am wondering if the left digit bias in used vehicle sales diminishes with higher mileage?

Thank you for your presentation Prof. Pope! It's really great to have you here at the MACSS seminar, look forward to your presentation tomorrow!

ziwnchen commented 3 years ago

Thanks for your presentation! Given the measurement difficulty, it is really fascinating to learn that the heuristic information processing (i.e., the left digit bias) could be captured in the large-scale dataset (outside the lab)! I'm really curious about how this could be captured in your current Lyft research (maybe by people's choice of different car options?). Apart from the left digit bias, are there any other heuristic biases that may also influence the market?

Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to your presentation.

Thank you professor for coming to our workshop! I believe the left-digits heuristics also exist in many other markets, why do you choose to investigate the car market? Thank you and looking forward to your presentation.

Thank you for sharing the work! I am wondering how the conclusions can be applied to marketing.

So happy to have you joining the workshop Professor Pope! Looking forward to the sharing tomorrow.

Thank you for your presentation, it is the first time I am hearing about this topic. I am interested in how this kind of left-digit forms and how it might impact the pricing strategies?

chentian418 commented 3 years ago

Hi professor Pope, thanks for sharing you work in the workshop! the left-digit bias in inattention framework is interesting and significant in multiple markets, and I'm glad you have find more evidence of the product market. As you mentioned that information-processing heuristics matter even in markets with large stakes and easily observed information, I was wondering if there is any kind of heterogeneous effect among different market characteristics? Thank you!

RuoyunTan commented 3 years ago

Thank you, Professor Pope, for sharing this wonderful work with us!

chiayunc commented 3 years ago

Thank you for coming to the workshop. I wonder what other markets could you possibly apply left-digits heuristics? Thank you.

Thank you, Professor Pope! Your research gives me many insights into pricing strategies. Could you make more elaborations on the impact of left-digit bias in other markets like retails, services, etc.?

j2401 commented 3 years ago

Hi Professor Pope,

I'm wondering how large the impact of the education(math) on the bias? We all know from math that the left most digit has the biggest impact therefore many times we focus on the first digit.

chrismaurice0 commented 3 years ago

Thank you for coming and speaking with us I am looking forward to your presentation. I would love to hear more about how you got this idea to investigate left digit bias and why you choose to look at lyft?

bjcliang-uchi commented 3 years ago

Thanks for sharing! The paper was published in 2012 so I am curious about whether your idea has changed throughout this recent decade, especially as Uber’s role as a labor contractor has been hotly debated.

Thanks very much for your sharing! I am interested in how your research conclusions about this paper in 2012 have evolved considering that Uber plays a more extensive role nowadays.
