Solo is the traditional wisdom of crowds (i.e., signals are independent). That's why we use it as a control (i.e., a baseline for comparison). Also, some studies have identified social learning as something that undermines the wisdom of crowds:

Thanks for your presentation! It's such an interesting paper. I am wondering why the experiment allocates participant into three conditions. Is solo condition necessary in this experiment? What's the meaning for it?
