This may be a very basic question, but the way the info-metrics framework is presented, it seems that it is a new kind of framework. However, I am still not sure how it differs from being an implementation of optimization principles married with common scientific practices (e.g. search for parsimony models). What is unique/innovative about this approach? Is it not true that the principles that the framework uses are commonplace in modeling and scientific discovery?
