Question about assumptions and unique solution #32

Thanks for your presentation. The idea of info-metrics seems simple while powerful. I am curious about your understanding of assumptions in the context of choosing optimization models. In your introduction, info-metrics approaches will reduce an uncertain problem to an optimization problem with minimal assumptions, or minimal number of constraints or parameters. For me when looking at various optimization functions, assumptions sometimes can be quite implicit or hidden. I am just wondering what assumptions are and what information they provide for us. For me assumptions as constraints can be viewed as modelings of uncertain information, which preserves the uncertainty however is also part of information what we can infer based on sufficient reasoning. I am wondering why you don't take assumptions as useful information induced by appropriate reasoning? I am also curious about your opinion on why yielding a unique solution is important in many cases, or when you think having a range of solutions is preferred to having only one solution? Thank you so much.
