I think this is a good point. I'd like to hear more about how these dictionaries are created (i.e. who/what determines if a word is masculine or feminine), though the supplemental survey analysis seems to support the approach taken in the paper
Your analysis shows a general decrease in use of gendered words in favor of more neutral words. However, depending on sector, this change in word choice may or may not be accompanied by changes in the gender breakdown of the employee position. Absent real changes in the gender breakdown of the position, I imagine the once neutral words would over time become seen as gendered. Do you agree and how does this complicate (or not complicate) your analysis?
