CS ML reception #6

Open AlexanderTyan opened 5 years ago

I noticed the article was published in PNAS, which is not where a typical ML paper would be. I was wondering how has the reception/critique of the paper been by the machine learning community.

I noticed this too - I'm quite interested to listen to this answer!

We did consider sending it to NIPS instead. However, since we thought some of the ideas might appeal to neuroscientists as well, we reasoned that publication in PNAS might reach a more diverse audience. Second, a previous landmark paper on catastrophic forgetting (https://www.pnas.org/content/114/13/3521) appeared in PNAS. Lastly, DeepMind has published in Nature a bazillion times, which goes to show there's nothing wrong to try to reach the widest audience possible!
