You've probably come across the very popular image of a burning monk - he was a Vietnamese Buddist monk who burned himself to death as an act of protest against the government. It baffles me (and many others) that he could sit down calmly as he was being burnt down. I was wondering if this level of pain tolerance is humanly possible?
