What is The Measurement? And How to Distribute Responsibilities for the Generation of Soft Structures? #4

Thank you for presenting!

I have a couple questions that came up while reading the chapter in your book (which is super interesting theoretically and in light of recent events):

  1. Can you say more how you (and referencing Raymond Williams) look at the tangibility of this structure of feelings? Is it a fundamental measurement? If there is one, what's the mathematical foundation for such a measurement?

  2. You made the point distinguishing the soft structures of feeling (e.g. Twitter hashtags) and deliberate structures, emphasizing that there is an unorganized element pertaining to the soft structures. What I have in mind is definitely an outlier case, but I am interested in your thoughts on this: there are cases where PR companies or campaign teams manipulate these soft structures, and those are at least deliberate and rational at the start. How would you categorize those cases? Is this a necessary disadvantage of this current social media platform?

  3. Following my (2) question, how would you delineate the boundary between when the public is responsible for populating such a soft structure and when there is another smaller group of active agents rationally incited the public and is responsible for the coming-into-being of such a structure?
