As we're getting closer to a formal release, I'd like to have more extensive unit tests. I'm going to keep this as a somewhat open issue for the next couple days.

Two updates:

the testing suite will be rewritten using alcotest
we'll try to implement some of the Nishchay's cram tests as unit tests
