It seems that it becomes possible to copy-paste anything added AFTER a zero-or-one column is pasted. Yet, the columns edited BEFORE the zero-only column addition remain protected. NOTE: in my case here, the zero-or-one value is for a categorical field type: a solution might be to use boolean... yet it helped find the issue. Thanks Hope that helps.
Note that I can't really scope this until I investigate and reproduce it.
@FranckLejzerowicz I am not able to reproduce this :( Might you be willing to sit down with me for 5-10 minutes to walk me through your steps? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the description of your workflow.
Sure I can try to reproduce with you watching. Whenever that suits you. I'm in the lab from 9am to 5-6pm usually. Thanks
Were y'all able to reproduce? I'm still not understanding exactly what the bug is or what the deviation from expectation was.
@adswafford Franck was able to reproduce with me watching, but even following his steps I wasn't able to reproduce on my system, so I need some more info :( @FranckLejzerowicz I emailed you a follow-up on this but in retrospect I'm guessing maybe the email address I used isn't the best one :-/ Here's my follow-up request:
Thanks again for walking me through the cut/paste bug this morning. Frustratingly, even though I saw it with my own eyes, I’m having trouble reproducing it on my own system (which makes it hard to fix), so I’d like to get some of the files you used to see if I can show that behavior using exactly the same inputs and outputs as you. Could you please send me:
Your pre-existing metadata spreadsheet that you uploaded to the wizard to get the columns Your csv file of metadata values that you pasted into the template output by the wizard The template output by the wizard that you made while I was watching this morning (or another just like it)—basically, I want to get my hands on a spreadsheet that is already demonstrating this issue! The version of your operating system The version of Excel that you are using
I know I’m asking for a lot of stuff here—my goal is to get everything I might need from you at once so that I don’t have to keep bugging you for additional input.
I answered though email. Did you get the files?
@FranckLejzerowicz Hmmm, no I haven't seen that email! :( Could you resend to abirmingham@ucsd.edu?
@FranckLejzerowicz and @AmandaBirmingham ; did y'all ever get to the bottom of this?
Haven't heard of this issue again so far, so moving to v1.TBD for now until it's at least possible to reproduce.
Hi. See screenshot for proof of shifted cell-expected content with respect to the header line. Example here: header = "physical_specimen_remaining" cell popup = "physical_specimen_location" as expected, all the following (and not the previous) cells are shifted too.
Sorry. I'm not sure I can reproduce that. I have no password access, I just could copy-pasted.
Maybe important to help finding the reason why I could do the copy-paste:
Summary of issue from Amanda: You can copy column contents from one place to another, and when you do, it copies the original excel validation
