Ability to Mint Community Accessible URI's on the Fly #5

UC Davis is currently in the midst of an effort to migrate our complete catalog and operations to Linked Data operations. We use OCLC Connexion as our cataloging interface, and Alma as our ILS. In order for our transition to proceed, we've identified several service requirements that require vendor engagements.

1) We need to be able to mint URIs on the fly in Connexion for entities for which the cataloger cannot find a current URI (Search to happen at point of cataloging in Connexion.) This will require OCLC to manage a reconciliation system wherein they take minted URIs and all associated data and either add them or reconcile them to something like VIAF (similar to the Named entity pilot).

2) We also need OCLC to push URI and label based records as RDF to Ex Libris.

3) We need Ex Libris to be able to receive the RDF data, including all URI associations.

4) We need to insure that URI based search and discovery is enabled via the ALMA API.

Another great (but not essential) thing to have would be a common API standard for making URI based queries across all platforms.

We are currently in talks with OCLC about their part of this, and they are willing to go down this road, but have indicated that they would be more motivated to do so if other members of the OCLC network were interested in participating in a pilot. We're hoping some of you who use Connexion might see this as valuable.

Update to the above. OCLC has agreed to pilot something with us on this.
