The Dalton (symbol Da) is not catalogued in the list. It is an alternative name for the atomic mass unit. In the 8th edition of the SI Brochure, it appeared to have equal status to the amu, but in the draft version of the 9th edition of the SI Brochure (Table 8) it appears to be preferred above the amu.

This seems to be a change of mind among SI committee. UCUM does not need to include multiple synonymous symbols, so we do not need to do anything about this. However, we could add some unit symbol for it specifically or at least cross reference it.

No decision yet. Open for discussion.

I notice that the original ticket workflow from the unitsofmeasure.org site is not available here (any more?) There were statuses such as "propose reject", etc. that are no longer there. What happened?

I don't know what my original status proposal was. I would be inclined to propose to reject.

As the initial issue statement says: dalton is synonymous to AMU and if the SI brochure editors had changed their minds over the last decade or two to come back to the dalton after having nearly abandoned it with this somewhat sterile synthetic name "atomic mass unit", then there is really little we can do about it.

I would say this is very low priority but if someone wants to propose what to insert into the specification, we will not really lose anything. The symbol for dalton would be Da. I don't think there would be any conflict with that.
