Lesson 3 - Make all the headers #36

Open bozenabj opened 7 years ago

bozenabj commented 7 years ago

Hi everybody :) I am very new to all of this and I am stuck with this lesson 3 - make all the headers as I don't understand where I can put my practice code for h1-h4. I've downloaded the Udacity Feedback extension and the Headers file but I am not sure where to get a necessary code to finish a test? capture

woodjeffrey3d commented 7 years ago

I'm having the exact same issue.

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

I am having the same problem, so now what? Seems like some type of bug to me, as it is not working properly. I did all this:

screenshot 2017-11-19 15 39 30

We are supposed to get a code that we paste in the box in the below image, but nothing is happening.

screenshot 2017-11-19 15 38 03_preview

Needless to say, I am very frustrated and cannot move on.

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

I should add that it is happening in the next two questions as well as it kept letting me go on to the next question. That was how I knew something had to be wrong. We are not getting any feedback code.

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

In order to resolve submission issues. Be sure to download the Udacity Feedback Chrome Extension as well as enable Allow access to file URLs via chrome://extensions so that the code verifier can function optimally.

bozenabj commented 7 years ago

Hey. I've downloaded the UFCE and allowed access

udacity feedback extension

and I've downloaded the Headers doc headers - downoloaded

but I still can't edit this page/headers. I am not sure how to follow the step 3. under How to complete this Quiz as I am not sure how should I: 'Edit index.html with your text editor and load your website in Chrome with the feedback turned on. When you've add all four levels of headers, you'll get a code. Copy the code into the box in the next screen to finish the quiz.'

I am sure that I am missing something, but can't figure it out.

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

I just realized I may have missed giving this link to help you in the process, my apologies. Copy and paste this into the browser: chrome://extensions/ go down to Udacity Front End Feedback and make sure that "Allow access to URLs" is checked.

Then what I recall was, I downloaded the file and loaded it in my text editor. I put in the headers as requested, then be sure to save it. From there I went to the Udacity screen you have up there and select the file (which is your HTML file) and select the "Allow feedback on this domain" I recall that I had to refresh the page and once I did those steps the problem was corrected. I hope this helps. I will be back here to check if this has worked for you. We will get it working. What is happening is that Udacity cannot read the URL because it is missing that connection. Udacity might not even know this is happening, but in any case, I hope this helps. ttyl

cipicu commented 7 years ago

Thank you! It worked for me.

kamshuwa commented 7 years ago

It's still not working, can someone please explain more?

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

Hello, @bozenabj and @kamshuwa I found when having the problem I had to remember to refresh the page. Also, make sure you save the HTML as these two are the things that can trip one up. I hope this helps. Please post what you did that was successful. Awesome job @cipicu! Could you please post what you did that you felt contributed to your success?

xaudi commented 7 years ago

Hello,

I am having the same problem, even i tried to copy paste the teacher solutions and it doesn't work. I don't know what can I do.

bozenabj commented 7 years ago

Hi everybody :) Augustina thank you very much for your feedback. I've followed instructions and I managed to upload my saved project on the Udacity page but now it seems the code is incorrect and now I am confused by that as I've checked the Quiz answer and mine is the same (just different text). The "box for code which we get when the test is done" updates with some link instantly when I upload my file on the page, using Udacity feedback. I definitely have Udacity Feedback on chrome + ticked box to allow access to URL. I updated the code with heaters like this: <!DOCTYPE html>

Headers Quiz

Add your headers below this paragraph element! Add an h1, h2, h3, and h4 to finish the quiz. And make sure every header has text content :)

This is my header 1

This is a second header

Header number three

The last header

Any thoughts?

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

Sorry, I am so late getting back to you @bozenabj, but I saw where you said thank you for feedback and thought everything was okay, my bad I did not finish reading the rest of the message. The only thing I can think of is to make sure your answer is the same as theirs. Not sure if that matters, but it was an observation. To do that click on "start quiz," and then "View Answer." Also, I will ask a friend of mine about it, but everything looks right, otherwise.

bozenabj commented 7 years ago

AugustinesIllustrations I really appreciate your effort to help. I am just hopeless case :) or something doesn't work for me. I tried with the next quiz - I have the same problem. I don't get the code even though the file is found by Udacity feedback extension. image

I think I will skip those and go on with lessons so I will get back to this later to check. Thanks for your support!

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

@bozenabj No! Do not say that! You are not a hopeless case. This stuff is not easy all the time, but that sounds like a good idea until I get to talk with my friend as he is very good at seeing what might be the problem. Sometimes it is also good to have someone that has not been looking at it so long to look at the problem. But no worries, we'll get this figured out. I will talk to him either tonight or tomorrow night. He and I do this all the time and we love bugs because that is what makes us better developers.;) Also, I need to have him look at something for me anyway.;):)

JackieHardt commented 7 years ago

@AugustinesIllustrations :same here. I just now had the chance to look further into this and I am struggling with atom, since this is completely new to me :)

anyhow. if I change the index.html and save it to my desktop, I get the same results as @bozenabj... any ideas? thank you ever so much! :)

Asbjorn12 commented 7 years ago

I am also very new to this, and seem to be having the same issue as everyone else. Thank you @AugustinesIllustrations for all your advice, I will see if any of it works for me.

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

Hello @bozenabj, @xaudi, @kamshuwa, @JackieHardt and @woodjeffrey3d, I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I apologize it has taken me awhile to get back in here, the holidays took me away, but also, I wanted to go over what I did with a friend to make sure I did not forget or miss anything and I will be back here tomorrow or no later than the next day with some type of answer.;):)

emmagarofalo commented 7 years ago

Hi! I've done everything suggested here and still can't seem to get it to work. :/ It doesn't automatically load the lesson or anything, and I really want to move on with the lesson.

AugustinesIllustrations commented 7 years ago

Hello everyone, I suggest contacting Udacity because upon looking at everything it seems to be their issue.

Teraisa commented 7 years ago

I'm unable to go back into the lesson, I finished last month. About two months ago I did that lesson and I remember I had to make sure some box was ticked on the side (the extension we used) and then I simply DRAGGED my file to the browser and the code popped up when I got it right. Twice I had issues but both times ended up being something silly like a closing tag.

Cadjoe commented 7 years ago

I've seen the ins and outs of the extension just like rest of you have.

Lesson 3 - Make all the headers #36

What was I missing? Simple, I think I was not paying attention to details most especially when came to integrating the extension into Chrome. Which I think is the same mistake you might be making.

Make sure to right-click on the extension, then select/click Manage extensions, while in extensions window, make sure Udacity extension is enabled and click checkbox to (Allow access to file URLs).

Navigate/click back on your website tab/window and reload page. Then click on Udacity extension/Udacity Feedback and your code should run as required.

P.S. These steps won't be helpful for Firefox users.

cipicu commented 7 years ago

Hi there! Sorry for this delay! I haven't so much problems with getting the code for the quiz. I just complete the task, saved the file, right click on the file, open with chrome and when the page was loaded I got the feedback and the code. Update: for those who didn't receive the code, you have to check "Allow feedback on this domain" and if everything is OK you'll got the code.

Cadjoe commented 7 years ago

The thing is I get the feedback but not the code! I guess not being to receive the code is not going to have me graded!

Easyfrythm commented 6 years ago

I am having the same issue and i have been going on it for three days now

Easyfrythm commented 6 years ago

i have been able to complete it

JackieHardt commented 6 years ago

please share how you did it! @Easyfrythm :)

Easyfrythm commented 6 years ago

i will first advise you to disable any other extension working on chrome that might interfere with the Udacity feedback extension

Easyfrythm commented 6 years ago

And i think we need to clarify something . the code you will get will not be like that of the example in view result. the format will be like Headerquizcode:HeadandShoulder

bozenabj commented 6 years ago

Hey guys...thank you so much for all tips here. I tried them all. And in the end it worked for me, but only following this simple step - dragging the docs to Chrome instead of uploading, like Terase explained above. It just didn't work for me with uploading a file and I don't understand whay as I was doing all steps but I wasn't getting any codes. Thanks to Teraise's tip I did it!!!

Hello, Does anybody dealed with this situation? screenhunter_558 dec 27 19 42

MargoMunns commented 6 years ago

Hi lulianaH, Yes I had such situation when I put incorrect web/ search: incorrect web

you should first download headers.zip file extract elements into your PC and than open index HTML in your text editor. As I'm using Atom I wrote 4 headers below our Quize notes than to File and Save, than go again to index HTML file and open it in Chrom. Afetr that you should get your headers and Udacity Feedback like below: correct_udacityfeedback_with_code

Hope this make sense and it will hep you!

mitzvahgirl commented 6 years ago

Yaaass! I got it to work. I first dragged the file to sublime. I added the h1-h4 elements and got the code. It took a lot longer than it needed to because of issues just trying to get a text editor open instead of the browser.

clhannon commented 6 years ago

Thank you EVERYONE for ALL this feedback! I was having the same issue and watching & reading along. I had to chime in and tell you guys how much I appreciated the help! It's been 3 hours trying to figure this out. I also was able to get mine to work as well. I had to change laptops, enable the feature and download Atom instead Notepad ++. Notepad was giving me some funky errors and coding.

Thanks again!

Watiri commented 6 years ago

I am stuck here. What is this error? @ @Easyfrythm @cipicu

coding7Panda commented 6 years ago

when i load the file it alerts me invalid json format.

arturbarcij commented 6 years ago

Hi everyone, I made all steps perfectly and still had the same issue. In my case, it didn't show up because of Adblock extension. I hope it will help many people who struggled as I did. :)

aruneshgupta commented 6 years ago

coding7panda i am getting the same issue by uploading it . Did you solve it ??
