In hiragana-mode (after C-j), you can use C-a to go to the beginning of the line.
But you cannot C-a in latin-mode (after hitting "l"). The C-a is treated as just "a".
C-e (end of the line) and C-k (kill the line) are also disabled, and treated as "e" and "k".
