Feature request: right clicking on objects to bring up context menu #456

I'm opening this issue because:

Description

Hiya! I'm a long time experienced Vim user, so naturally I was intrigued by this Firefox add-on and have been loving it since. I have searched the issue tracker and Wiki/README.md with the queries "right click", "context menu", and "image" to see if such a feature already exists, but to no avail.

Today, I just ran into an interesting use case which I thought of "hmm, this add-on would be able to save me more time if it could automate this task"!

Current problem

As of version 0.18, Vim Vixen does not support expanding full-size images (for the sake of being mindful of feature scope creep, I won't be talking about it), nor right clicking on links and images for that matter.

There are many tasks that are more efficient to perform by right-clicking on objects; there are also some that are impossible to do with left-clicking alone. Therefore, this feature would massively increase user productivity, and make it possible to do many more things. A bonus plus is that this feature has perfectly seamless integration with Firefox's context menu - it would further reduce the user's reliance on their mouse/trackpad/trackpoint/etc. even more.

Often times, I want to save a URL as an html file, or save an image - instead of the default action of left clicking on them.

Example user story

Bobby's new favorite animal is the Grizzly Bear, and he wants to learn more about them. He visits a simple HTML website containing nothing but photos of this animal, and to download 4 of them super quick he uses this series of keystrokes (X is to right-click):

X1v[Enter] X2v[Enter] X3v[Enter] X4v[Enter]

With the help of Vim Vixen, combined with Firefox's built-in shortcut for the Save Image As... command, Bobby is now very happy!

@CecileGS,

I'm a little confused as to what you're proposing, exactly. Are you talking about a Vim Vixen key binding that opens the context menu? Like the Menu Key or Application Key on the bottom right of some keyboards?

ghost commented 6 years ago

@Stefanough Neither. When I say context menu, I mean the drop-down menu that pops up when you right-click anywhere on a webpage. Thanks for the request for clarification, maybe there's some room for improvement in my OP in terms of clarity.

@CecileGS

OK, we're both talking about the same menu. Thanks for clarifying.

I think this would be a great feature. I do not have the Menu/Application Key on my keyboard, so every time I want to download or view an image (or otherwise access the right-click menu) I have to reach for the mouse.

Any progress on this feature?

+1 I think a possibility to right click would be great! Any updates?
