Hey Orange and Blue team, it's James. As a reminder to those who were in class, and to tell everyone who wasn't, first edits by copy editors on individual stories are due THIS FRIDAY, March 21. All group stories will be edited by each group's editor, and those are due by next Friday, the 28th.

If your individual story is specifically part of your group's larger story, then that will count toward your group story and your group's editor will handle that for next Friday. However, if your individual story is independent of a larger story, make sure you upload it to Github ASAP, meaning TODAY. The copy editors need to edit individual stories, and currently there are only 7 of such stories in the repository. It doesn't matter if it's only an outline, notes, or half of a story, we need something up, if only so the editors and designers know what stories we even have for this magazine. Ideally, we would like a full draft of your story by next Friday (the 28th), along with when the group stories are due, so we can start arranging everything.

FOR COPY EDITORS: There are currently 7 individual stories available for edit; if any of them catch your eye, claim them for yourself by assigning it to yourself, and then everyone else will know it's yours. Hopefully more stories will appear, and when they do I'll add them to the list and you can have at them. If no more stories come in and we have a shortage, then double up, but just make sure every story gets edited. I'll read through every story as well to be sure.

For these first edits, focus on structure, general improvements, tone and other "big picture" things. You can include source and multimedia suggestions as well. Make sure these are done by Friday so the individual writers have a full week to work with your edits.

FOR GROUP EDITORS: You have until next Friday to edit the group stories, but since it's also your story and you have other people to help you, these edits should be more like a complete second draft. Look for cohesion among the parts, errors, and have a general layout and multimedia plan in mind, ideally with the multimedia content ready to go. By the 28th, we should know exactly how each group story will look, so the editors and designers can start fitting everything together.

I know this is a lot, but if we can get everything up on the site, preliminary edits done and out of the way, and a good feel about how long and shaped each story is before April starts, then the last few weeks will be much easier. They''' still probably be very hard, but we really can't progress to the full magazine level if we don't even know all the stories we're putting in it.

So let's stay focused, upload your story if you haven't, and I hope you all have a great rest of the week!
