Searching VIVO for expertise #386

Jeff,

Searching VIVO for “electrical activity in the heart” produces about four pages of search results. First page screen shot attached as figure 1. This isn’t a MeSH term, so the results are uneven as they would be in any open ended search.

But every paper written by UF faculty since 2008 that has been indexed in PubMed has MeSH terms associated with it in VIVO. You see these terms listed as “concepts” in the first search result.

Clicking on a concept such as Electrophysiology produces the results in figure 2. We see people who have declared this has a research area, and papers that have the concept as one of the MeSH terms.

By reviewing concepts, papers and people, one can generate a list of people who appear to be experts in the area.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Karen,

Mike, I am trying to find a way to identify if a particular research expertise exists at UF or the COM. After Karen’s email. I have experimented with VIVO but have not found an easy way to do this within the VIVO architecture. Is there something simple that I am missing?

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Yes, VIVO is designed to do just that! I've copied Dr. Conlon who oversees VIVO in case you have questions.

Can you tell me if there is a searchable database at UF or the COM that I can use to find investigators doing research in a certain area. For example, if I wanted to find someone studying electrical activity in the heart?

Thanks
